MANNING WINTER FESTIVAL Inc. PRESIDENT`S ANNUAL REPORT
21 OCTOBER 2016.
On behalf of the Manning Winter festival Committee it is my pleasure to report that the June 2016 Manning Winter Festival was a successful celebration and promotion of outstanding local artistic talent and a thriving creative industry in the Manning Valley. The Festivals are held every two years, with the next one scheduled to be held for 12 days; 1 - 13 June 2018.
With limited resources, our hard working volunteer committee members strive to deliver a program of events to reflect the diversity of talent across the Manning. This year the nominated organization for support was Ovarian Cancer Research. I am pleased to advise that a cheque for $2,000 has been contributed to that important cause.
We aim to continue “growing” the Festivals and seek the support and participation of the wider community to get involved and plan ahead for the 2018 Manning Winter Festival. To do that we need groups and individuals to register their interest, so that they are included on our database. Check our website: www. manningwinterfestival.weebly.com or email: [email protected]
We congratulate and thank outgoing locally born and educated Festival Ambassador, Tanya Saad. Author and cancer survivor, Tanya has been a great advocate for the Manning Valley over the past two years. We also congratulate and welcome another locally born and educated Ambassador, talented musician and composer, Jonathan Billingham, who is the Manning Winter Festival Ambassador for 2016 – 2018.
A highlight of each Festival is the presentation of the Visual and Performing Arts Awards. We not only congratulate but celebrate the amazing achievements of our local people. This year the winners were: Visual Arts, Joint Winners - Julie Slavin and Mark Braithwaite. Performing Art; Highly Commended – Kerrie Bates; Winner, Gayle Cameron. Special Arts Award, Winner, Sue Mitchell.
We acknowledge with much appreciation our many local sponsors – the Manning River Times, GPG Partners Accountants and Business Advisors, the former Greater Taree City Council, Stacks Finance, Manning Shoes, Paton Hooke Lawyers, acservice, MJR Accountants and others, including the Exchange Hotel, Café Mediterrano, Raw Sugar, Fish,Fish,Fish, The Sicilian and Great Lakes Paddocks. Without their support we could not have produced such a comprehensive program, nor would we have been able to make a contribution to Ovarian Cancer Research. Sincere thanks to you all.
Finally, I thank our hard working team of committee volunteers. They have done an amazing job this year!
Cultural development is an important aspect of our lifestyle choice to live here in our beautiful Manning Valley. May we all continue to work together to identify, encourage and promote, creative industry in our Manning Valley.
Remember too, that as we facilitate cultural development in our area, we are also encouraging tourism and helping to strengthen our economy.
